    1. [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] "The MELMERBY"
    2. Alan Crossland
    3. Dear List, This is something of a last resort... Has anybody ever come ascross an illustration/ picture of the ship "MELMERBY" which ran on the Queensland funded emigration runs for the James Baines / Black Ball Line 1865 onwards... I have contacted many places including Queensland state sources, New Brunswick, Canada where she was built, English maritime sources, and several contacts with Black Ball line experience, the majority have been extremely helpful. The main problem seems to be she was mainly chartered to the Black Ball line rather than having been an "owned" ship, therefore it hasn't been documented as much. Can anybody help ? Many Thanks, Alan Crossland.

    3. Trudy, have checked my records - if you search "australian genealogy military links" you will be led to the Australian War Memorial sites relevant to WW1 records, check each link for the info you need. to access public records - shipping, enter "Public Records Office Victoria" and check links for relevant info - found my gg g'parnets in the Unassisted Passenger Lists. Hope this helps somewhat, if not get back to me. 1. [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] John R McWilliam from Ireland to Victoria in 1854
    2. Jill & Mike Glover
    3. Hello all, This is my first letter to you. My ggg/f, John Richardson MCWILLIAM/S, came to Australia, in 1854, from Ireland, and landed in Victoria. He was from County Armagh, in Northen Ireland. He then went overland to the goldfields in Vic., and eventually ended in Q'ld for awhile. Then to Mudgee and Coonamble, where he was the owner/editor of the local newpaper. Any clues as to where to look for his arrival would be appreciated. I think he would have been a full paying passenger. He was very young, about16yrs, and came with a tutor. Thanking you in advance, Jill Glover, Brisbane.Aus.

    3. Trudy, You may like to try the Public Records Office of Victoria (on - line ) I managed to find my gg g'parents arrival records dating to 1889, the Public Records site allows you to search surnames in the data base and then provides you with the ship name, date of arrival, names of those in same family traveling and the fiche no. so that you may retrieve a full transcript of the passenger list. 2. Sharron
    3. Hello Peter. I am currently tracing my family - not the Roberts though I'm afraid. However, my ancestors also arrived here on the Taroba. All I have on this ship in regards to my relatives (Algie's) was that it left London on 15 October 1890 and they landed in Rockhampton in December of 1890. I am thinking that your grandfather was probably on board the same ship at the same time as if it was in Rockhampton in December of 1890 it would then have made it's way to Townsville possibly arriving in Jan of 1891. I have yet to find any info on this ship but when (and if) I do I shall forward such to you. Thanks Sharron --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
