    1. [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] BAXTER/LOVELL 1888-1891
    2. Hi Listers, Sometime between August 1888 and May 1891, William BAXTER arrived in Sydney with Mary, masquerading as BAXTER, but actually LOVELL, and probably Emma (b.1879) and Ada (b.1881) who could have been defined as either Baxter, or their correct name of Lovell. He was a confectioner. Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can find out which ship they travelled on and when they arrived. Mary had a son in London in August 1888, and he did not go with them. The family were back in London in 1901, complete with three children born in Sydney. Thanks for any help you can give. Paul in Chelmsford UK.

    3. Hi Trish, My gggrandfather married my gggrandmother in Adelaide in 1878 and on the certificate it says he was a widower. So, as we do not know how he got to Adelaide or from where and now who with!!!!!!!!. Did he marry in England (Cornwall perhaps) or Wales and come out here with his wife, with children, or did he come after her death? I am hoping to find an answer, a little answer will do <g>. Thanks for you e-mail and good luck. Hi Theresa There is a problem with this namely Australia didnt exist in 1861. At that time this large island was split into 6 colonies who kept their own records . The Federated nation of Australia dates from 1 Jan 1901. The Federal Government didnt take over customs, excise & immigration till 1924 Bye Marg Morters Beautiful Central Coast of NSW Australia

    3. Starting today (Monday, 6/10) and extending over several days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a while when it happens; please don't post "why aren't I getting mail" during that time.....you will when it comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. <g> If you have trouble reaching other RW servers this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three..... Hi All I believe my GGGrandfather John Weaver arrived into Victoria in August 1853 on the Ignis Fatuus as a unassisted passenger, this ship came from a foreign port and I have searched all the shipping records that I can find and cannot find any trace of this ship or its origin. Is there any one out there that may be able to point me in the right direction as I am trying to tract him back from when and where he left England. His marrage records give his ocupation as a seaman, and he was born in Kent England Regards Anne

    3. Can some kind soul assist me, I am trying to find how a Thomas DAVIS came to Adelaide either directly from England or Wales or through other States or New Zealand. We know he was in Adelaide prior 1878 as a widower, we do not know if he was married before he came here, did he arrive on his own or bring a wife or a wife with children. He may have married in Adelaide and was a widower by 1878. Where can I find shipping lists to Adelaide, or newspaper lists of arrivals or any other aid. Would appreciate any assistance. 1. [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Ship leaving England March 1863
    2. Mary Kernebone
    3. Greetings Everyone, This is my first posting to this list. I am trying to find out about an inscription in a family Bible and so far have drawn a complete blank, despite the detail it contains. It reads: "Mr W. Morris a gift from his brother Peter James on leaving England for Australia March the 18th in the year 1863." William Morris who received the gift was born in 1823. The location is uncertain but possibly Wales. He was married in Portsmouth and served in the Royal Navy. In his later years he lived in London and then Australia, where his children had migrated earlier. There is a family story that this brother, Peter, was a convict, but I have not been able to find any evidence of this or even of his presence in Australia. I have also, so far, not been able to find any information about ships leaving for Australia around Marcy 18th 1863. Any help would be much appreciated. 3. Hello I have decided to have another go and re post my interests My paternal grandmother, Eliza (Betty TINSLEY/LYONS) GIBSON was born in Stannington Vale, Northumberland, England in 1888 and married in Sydney in 1914, so she must have immigrated in that time frame, 1888-1914. I do not know if she came with her parents but her father, John GIBSON, was deceased by 1914. Her mothers name was Jane JESSE. I have since found she had one, maybe two, brothers I need to find out when, with whom, on what ship, etc or any other information on her immigration Anyone have any ideas on how I could get this info.
