    3. Hi Phil, sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner, but it's a bit hectic over here. Have you recently contacted the Cowra Family Hist group as all of the research that I did there during the last holidays they took a copy of. I have a lot of information about the descendants and a few good obituaries for the old Cowra paper. You're so lucky to be so close. It's a little tricky researching from over here in Perth. My direct descendant is Allen Moore (William senior's grandson) but I am interested in all of them. I have also contacted another Moore (Dorothy Giles) here in Perth she is related to William snr's son Willian jnr. Let me know what you would like Phil. Alison Gregory

    3. Hi Peter, I was wondering if there might be a connection with my COMLEY's - I am always clutching at straws with this family LOL. I have a George COMLEY who migrated to S.A. with his sister Hannah and her husband Thomas SINKINSON in 1838. My lot appear to have been in Lancashire before coming to Sth. Australia. Maybe your lot came out knowing that other family members were already in Sth. Australia?? Thought I would ask, just in case. 3. Hi to the list, I'm a new subscriber and I'm told that thefollowing info may be of interest to someone on the list. I have two pages of a passenger list for the Waroonga which I am reliably told is for the 1884 voyage UK - N. Qld via Djakarta (or Batavia as it them was). Details are as follows: Full Paying Steerage Marsh, Thomas age 48 Springer, Edith age 20 Assisted Ardron, Frank age 22 Hancock, Susan age 22 " George age 14 " Fred age 12 Newton, Agnes age 32 Free Ash, Fred A. age23 Butler, Alfred age 20 Chappell, William H. age 19 Chase, Miss age 48 Davies, Harriet age 24 Feehan, Margaret age 26 What is, I understand, the next page lists the following, the first of whom may or may not be of the Feehan family " Matilda age 12 " Agnes age 8 " William age 6 " Sarah age 4 " James age 14 Gardner, John age 19 Garner, Fred age 29 " Mary age 30 " Fred age 2 Gazzard, Sarah age 32 " Eva age 9 " Henry age 8 " Mabel age 7 " Henrietta age 5 " Henry age 3 " Gladys age 2 Hosken, Emma age 27 Humphrey, Albert age 22 Hansell, Jane age 37 could be Hamell Handel, Tom age 20 Hansford, George age 20 Hamill, Robert age 35 Heany, John age 18 " George age 16 Hamilton, John age 19 Hindley, Jane age 22 Hancock, Thomas age 54 " Elizabeth age 52 Jones, Elizabeth age 20 Kelly, Edward age 25 Kenny, Charles age 21 Keegan, Thomas age 29 They are in this sequence down the page and I presume that each category is for steerage passengers only, but I don't know that for sure. The above is all the info I have. Ben Brisbane, Oz.

    3. South Australian death certificates for that period do not provide the same information as those from Queensland, NSW and Victoria. I wasted money on the death certificate for my great grandfather and the only information on it was his name, place and date of death which I already knew, and the cause of death which was not of particular relevance to me given his considerable age at date of death. 3. Hi Listers For the benefit of Newbies (me) and other strangers to this land (Peter), could someone please tell us whether or not we can search by surname in SA shipping arrivals...? It appears from looking at the Archives of SA website http://www.archives.sa.gov.au/readingroom/advice/plistsin.html and from the South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society webste http://www.saghs.org.au/shipping.htm that we can only search alphabetically by name of ship. Is this a correct observation? Is there any other way to do a free search online by surname of the passenger? Extract from SAGHS website about the shipping records: SHIPPING ARRIVALS Databases | Deaths & Burials | SA Shipping Arrivals | SA Places | Place Codes | Library Catalogue | Journals A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | IJ | K | L | M | N | OPQ | R | S | T | UV | W | XYZ Formerly known as Source 313 and now GRG35/48a this section lists the vessels whose records survive in some form from 1836 to 1886. The number of voyages with surviving records number just 749 and the material available for each list varies considerably. The material you do locate may include any of the following: An embarkation list prepared by the agent or emigration agents. A passenger manifest prepared by the captain. Certificate of arrival prepared by the immigration officials. Sundry lists created for other purposes such as fee-payers, land-holders. Hint: Read the first page header of the shipping list carefully to determine what you are looking at! Problems include: Survival rate of lists is poor. Lists may not be a true indication of the immigrants who actually arrived Writing is often difficult to decipher. Useful information on origins is rare. Teenagers in families are split off and listed under the unmarried passengers. Departure and arrival date may vary from record to record. Fee paying passengers usually not recorded. Crew never recorded except in manifests. I am SO glad most of my relatives had the good sense to come to Victoria...! LOL! 3. I have been researching Heinrich "Henry" BRAUER of Tenterfield. I have established that he arrived in Brisbane on board "Johann Cesar" with son Henry. The Ship departed Hamburg 30th September 1855. After he had been here for some time he sent for his wife and children to come out. I cannot find any reference to their arrival. The family were:- Julia BRAUER nee KESTON/CASTON/KARSTEN/HASTON Frederick BRAUER Charles Henry BRAUER Dorothea BRAUER They later had a child George born in Tenterfield in 1860 which shows they arrived between 1855 and 1860. It doesn't give age, place of birth or origin - nothing but the name, in this case only "Mr Giles". I'd like to know how to get more info on the identity of this Mr Giles.
