Thanks Anne u have been a great help. Thanks for taking the time. Janis
Janis, I'm hoping some one else can help you more than I can but here goes: Firstly Code B means that the passenger referred to in the O'Neill immigration record I sent you was an inward overseas passenger from a British port. The Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) www.prov.vic.gov.au holds passengers lists divided into disposal and nominal lists. The disposal list details what happened to the immigrant after arrival, for example, the name and address of their new employer, their wages, whether rations were included and the period of employment. Whereas the nominal list gives the details of each immigrant's name, age, occupation, religion, native place and literacy. The lists are arranged alphabetically within each section, are further divided into three groups, beginning with families (which include children under 14 years), followed by unmarried males, then unmarried females. So one family with older sons and daughters may be split within the three groups. Births and deaths during the voyage usually appear after the list of passenger names. Now unfortunately staff at the PROV will not undertake research for anyone regardless of where you live but perhaps some one on the list may be going to the PROV and will do a look up for you. So send an e-mail asking for any one who is planning a trip to the PROV to e-mail you off list and hopefully some one will respond. Hi I have just found out which ship my Great Grandmother & two daughters sailed on to Australia in October 1913. It was the SS Miltiades. Has anyone on the list know anything about it. It has a fiche number but I am not able to go and research it. Would anyone be able to tell me where it sailed from and to which port it sailed in, it just has Port B on the page. How long would it take to sail to Australia from the UK in those days ? Thanks Jan

Hi Babs & Listers! I know how you feel Babs. My interest in family history post dates my last trip to England. I cannot believe that I spent an entire morning pottering around Woodstock in Oxfordshire looking for gloves and post cards in complete ignorance of the fact that an entire branch of the tree sprouted there for generations! I'm planning my next trip to coincide with the Rugby World Cup so that I can take advantage of that great husband minding service and potter peacefully along ancestors' trails! Yes, Steph, I would like to keep in touch with you, you seem like my kind of person. I'm 71, have 5 kids, 9 grandkids & 2 great-grandkids, but all but one son live far away in Tassie, Nimbin, country Victoria & Queensland.
