Hello to all, I am new to this list. My main quest is to find a family of Munros who came to Sydney in the 1830s from Scotland (Dingwall) The time period doesn't fit in to usual on line searches. Does anyone know where I would go to try to find them? Regards Chris Farrow
If there is anyone who has access to the Unassisted Immigrant fiche, for Victoria could they please look up the entry for Julia Blunden & her two daughters Mabel & Emily who sailed on the SS Miltiades , October 1913. The reference is 882-006. I have no idea which ports they sailed from or two or where they were going once they got there. Many thanks Jan
Hi Robert, Thank you for your prompt reply. That is most unfortunate indeed. I'll just keep plodding along and see what eventually turns up. Thank you once again, it is very much appreciated. However this listing only cover unassisted passengers. I'm not sure what records Victoria holds in this respect and it is a difficult one as not all assisted passengers were listed. Back on those days it was more of a buy ticket and hop onboard, much like buying a bus ticket today. Sorry I can't be of further help, but I know what the type of battle you are having - it is very frustrating. Best of luck with your research. Robert ______________________________
If there is anyone who has access to the Unassisted Immigrant fiche, could they please look up John O'Neil who arrived in 1853 (I think). What I need is any info so I can work out which is the correct ship. It was either the Nepaul(1852) or Loch Lomond (1853). He came from Limerick. At the same time could you please look up his brother Charles O'Neil who arrived in 1858 on the Queen of the East 11. Any info gratefully received. TIA Janis
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with information regarding the "John Elder" (an Orient Liner heading to Adelaide) My gt grandmother Catherine BRODIE evidently came out to Australia in 1882 ( or thereabouts ) on this ship. Any information on my Catherine or the ship would be greatly appreciated. Sue
I have been told that this is only for assisted passengers, not unassisted. This is a pity!!!
Could someone please tell me where I would look to see the London end of a Ships Passenger List. The person who I think may have been my father in law [he was a New Zealander] arrived from London, ENG on the ORSOVA in January 1923, I only have his initials A.C Milne, the age is right, but? Also is there anywhere else in Victoria I could search. Help would be much appreciated. Sue Western Australia

Sue, Below is my understanding of disposal and nominal lists as taken from the book, 'Private Lives, Public Records' published by the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) which is a wealth of information. The disposal list details what happened to the immigrant after arrival, for example, the name and address of their new employer, their wages, whether rations were included and the period of employment. Whereas the nominal list gives the details of each immigrant's name, age, occupation, religion, native place and literacy. I'm trying to find when my ggrandparents came to Victoria from England, and on what ship. They came sometime between Jan 1883 and April 1885. The details that I have are Name: CHARLES WHITTARD Wife; ALICE JULIA WHITTARD Child; HAROLD CHARLES WHITTARD born 12 Jan 1883 Bristol There next child was born 14 April 1885 in Richmond Vic. They stayed in Victoria for a few years and had 2 more children there. One born 21 July 1887 and the next on the 4 July 1889 There next child was born on 9 Aug 1891 in Sydney. I don't know how or when they came to Sydney, but it was sometime between July 1889 and August 1891. Is there anyway of finding this information, is there a CD available? If there is would someone mind doing a lookup for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've come to a dead end with this family. Thank you, Susan Sydney

Hi Listers, New to the list and am hoping that someone has heard of the above ship. I have an ancestor that arrived in Victoria in 1876 on board the Julia Percy. Was wondering if anyone on the list has any knowledge or passenger lists for the above ship. I would be grateful for any help. TIA Christine
