To MargM, Thank you for your advice and help to those of us who are still feeling our way. I have always noticed your kind replies when one of us is stymied or barking up the wrong tree! I am sure many of us on various lists are grateful to you. Thanks so much. Hello to all, Can anyone tell me how I can go about finding and searching Ships Passenger Lists into Sydney for the years 1911-12. I cannot narrow my search down any further than that I'm afraid. I am looking for a James Campbell his wife Jean (or Jeannie) and four children. Any help will be very much appreciated. With Thanks, Llew Hodges Far north Queensland
TILBURY would have been the nearest Port .. It is on the Thames Estuary.. but i believe that didn't open until about 1885 so I guess LONDON is your most likely.... betty ----- Original Message ----- From: "David & Jannette" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 04, 2005 10:46 AM Subject: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Kent-Melbourne > Hi > Would anyone have any ideas about the following:- > My GGrandfather Henry PRICE came to Australia at about 18 years of age > which would be approx 1876. Dear Sue I think he would have been a Lamplighter who lit the street lamps. There used to be a song about them. "The old lamplighters of long long ago" Marie

Even for some years after WW2 there was gas street lighting in England and these lights were lit by hand and extinguished by hand > I would very much like to find out what his initials > stand for. What should they stand for ? . Perhaps look him up in the 1901 UK census..........maybe a clue in that Bye MargM Beautiful Central Coast of NSW

Hi Janette, Most ships to Australian ports left from Liverpool, Plymouth and London. From on line records Public Record Office Victoria There appears to be only one that would suit the time frame. As follows, these are only guides and it would be best if you could look up the ship from The fiche No.374 and page No.009, given at the end of the entry. This would give more detail. B = British ship. Hi Everyone Would someone please be able to advise me where to further search to verify that this gentleman is my husbands father. This person travelled on the 'ORSOVA' leaving from London in late 1922, the ship arrived in Melbourne, Australia on January 23 1923. He is shown on the passenger list as Mr. A. C. MILNE - 23 - Lamplighter [ I believe this was something to do with the lightships off the coast of England? I would very much like to find out what his initials stand for. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA. I've had no luck this end. Sue Western Australia
Hi Would anyone have any ideas about the following:- My GGrandfather Henry PRICE came to Australia at about 18 years of age which would be approx 1876. He lived in and was born in Kent (Sittingbourne) and arrived in Melbourne. Would he have left from a Kent port most likely or somewhere else? Jannette
