    1. Re: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] Immigration Lists Australia ONLINE or IN PERSON
    2. Francis and Liz Seaton
    3. Hi Teresa Yes you do find our more info from the microfiche. Some historical societies keep copies of the microfiche records. Depending on where you live you may save yourself a trip to the State Library. Also you can pay people to look things up for you if you have the details. I live in Mansfield and have considered that option because of th time and cost to get to Melbourne. If you belong to some Genealogical societies, you can get the look-ups done at a special rate. Check the websites and usually they give details of that. You will find some people with the name of their sponsors, tenure of employment, rate of pay, etc. Make sure you check the Nominal roll and the Disposals roll (theoretically passengers are listed on both but I am actually dealing with a person who I found on the Disposals roll only and am yet to find him on the nominal. The Disposals roll gave a lot of good info-sponsors, etc but not the man's age, which was the key thing I was after!! Hope that's a help. If you ever come across a Joseph Hall in your research, please let me know. 2. Katrina
    3. Hi, I have some ancestors who all seemed to arrived 1835 - 1842. If someone has the time to look for them, I'd be very grateful. I can offer lookups of NSW births 1906-1918 in return. My apologies if I'm asking for too many at once. John and Bridget MILLETT/MELLETT (a 't' could be missing) 1839-1840 from Mayo, Ireland via Liverpool where they married in March 1839. Samuel and Sarah DAWSON and children before 1842, 1838-9 according to death certs, from Sussex, England, possibly under surname Goodsall. Henry POTTER before July 1841, maybe per "Cornwell" Sept 1, 1839, born Kent, England. John SAUNDERS/SANDERS early 1840s, from Leicester, England. The following one is unlikely to be a bounty immigrant but you never know... Thomas GIBSON, sea captain, before August 1842 when he married in Sydney. He was lost at sea 1852, hence no death cert. Cheers, Katrina Kyogle, NSW

    3. Hi Listers Could someone please tell me again whether or not you find more information on the ACTUAL records stored in the various States' Public Record Offices and any microfiche, compared to what you find on the ONLINE passenger lists...? I've located some of my ancestors on both the ASSISTED and UNASSISTED passenger lists for Victoria ONLINE but wonder whether viewing the 'fiche' or going to the reading rooms might turn up extra information? For instance, I was wondering whether you might find out details of the SPONSORS who assisted them etc....? Some time ago a Lister gave me the answer to my query, but I can't remember what they said. Sorry to have to ask this again, but I'm still recovering from losing all my records due to several computer crashes this year...! I also have a friend in the UK who wants to find out more about the ship BERAR his ancestors came ASSISTED on to South Australia. Michael may be a relative born around Southwark Surrey-London at approx 1820, found alive and kicking in the 1841 census but absent from then onwards. It seems the UK death registrations indicate both my Michael's wife and daughter may have died before the 1851 census. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Bob in Brisbane

    1. Athenian 1852 Melbourne Passenger List
    2. Tony Collins
    3. Hi all, Below is a transcribed list of passengers from the Athenian which arrived February 26, 1852 Melbourne and as listed in the Argus March 1, 1852. There are some very distinctive names there. This was a Caroline Chisholm immigrant ship that left London Sept 1851. My ancestor George Collins was on it. According to various sources the passenger were grouped in group of not less than nine people. These groups were liable for the payment of 10 shillings each if a member defaulted on the repayments for the loan for the ship fare. My George Collins ended up on the Goldfields somewhere, then in the Warrmabool area in the mid 1850's. At the time of the British 1851 cenus he was in Mile End Town,London. It would be interested in seeing of where any links can be made for these groups. If you can claim a name below, where did they come from, and where did they end up? Apart from the Collins', I don't have info on any of the names, but I have a little info on the ship and the voyage. 1. outwards shipping?
    2. Miss Grunge
    3. Hi, I realise this list is inwards shipping, but I feel sure that you can help me. I've searched PROV but without success. I need to find out what ship Noel GRANGER , his wife Violet and their daughter Pamela sailed on when they returned to England from Victoria in about 1931/32/33 . Obviously I also need the date of departure. Where should I look/search/ask? Many thanks, Miss G.

    3. Bill & Sue If the bible is available, and the owner is willing, and has access to a digital camera, or there is someone locally prepared to do it, it is possible to photograph pages digitally. If care is taken, it works well and at least gives you access to the information. Cherrie -----Original Message----- From: Bill and Sue [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, 6 November 2005 5:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [AUS-IMM-SHIPS] re McNab Thanks for the help Stephanie, though they are not my McNabs. All the information I have was from a phone call I made to an 87 year old McNab. He has the family bible which I will never see unfortunately. His eyes are failing as you would expect at that age. He told me this Alexander and his wife Maria/Marion/Mary McNab and their son arrived somewhere in the colonies in Dec 1837. Their daughter Catherine was born 1 Jan 1838 28 days after they arrived here. If it is at all possible I would like to know where they sailed from (I assume Scotland), what ship, the names on the passenger lists, and when and where they arrived. I have been searching the net for any info on them and cant find any, so any help is really appreciated.
