Hi Lynne, Who are you searching for?? Some of the early ship passenger lists did not survive. I know a Relative of my husband, arrived in 1823 and this record is lost. We found the year and name of ship,he arrived on, in a letter written when he was asking for a grant of land. Kind regards, Lynne. Hello Lynne, Have you tried the NSW Govt. births, deaths, marriages. I just enter nsw bdm in my search engine and it brings up an index. I also use the State Records of NSW for a lot of queries. Is there anywhere online that I can check passenger arrivals to NSW for 1818 Thanks Lynne
I am seeking information on the arrival of MARY McGOWAN [EN[ into the port of Victoria, Aus. about 1850. She was born in Scotland in 1833, parents William and Mary McGowan. She married John Wylie, born Scotland in 1828, in North Melbourne in 1857, Any information on the immigration of either of these two would be appreciated. Peggy
G'day Lynne, Thanks so much for finding out this info on the Ullock for me. Do you know were I would find info on deserted seaman? have a great day! Leanne
Looking for any additional information on the immigration of the John KERR (KARE) family from Liverpool to Melbourne in 1852. They came over on the "Maria" in Oct. 1852. Any more info on this vessel? Also looking for a Thomas KERR b. 1790 in Scotland that may have come over in the 1850's with his wife Mary Born Scotland. Also looking for a John Alfred GRANT (GANDERTON) that immigrated from the UK in the 1890's, and married supposedly in Sydney 1896. He was born about 1868-69 in Cheshire England and was a labourer. He did end up in 1897 in Fremantle with his wife Florence May Hassard Vannan. Any assistance appreciated. Kind Regards, Jim
Hi, I'm new to this list and to searching shipping lists. I live in Northland New Zealand and most of my forebears seem to have left the UK and Ireland and headed for Australia before ending up in New Zealand, although a few side-tracked to India or South Africa before their arrival in Australia. I am now trying to find out when/where and any other info re their arrival in Australia. Mostly I know only their names, not the ships, and an approx date. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My first query: FURLONG, came from Co Wexford, Ireland. MARGARET, married St Lawrence Webb in Melbourne 26 Jan 1862. Their first child was born in NZ about a 18 months later. The only info I have for her is from her marriage and death certificates - and the facts clash. Said to be 22 - thus born abt 1840 in Wexford, Ireland. (Death cert says she was married at 17) Parents said to be William Furlong and Bridget nee Hebeve farmers. She made her mark. I have not found her on the Vic assisted and unassisted immigrant list, although I have been told a Margaret Furlong aged 18 arrived in Victoria via the Marco Polo in 1862. Is anyone able to give me any info about the Margaret on the Marco Polo? (My thought was that the ship would have had to arrive before the 26th Jan and that St Lawrence would have had to have been a passenger on the ship also - incidentally, he arrived at Port Phillip in July 1840 with his father and siblings, off the Coromandel, from Ireland.) WILLIAM, father of Margaret, husband of Bridget. I have no idea if any other members of Margaret's family came to Victoria. On the unassisted Vic list I found this: William Furlong, 68, Oct 1860, Mermaid, Port B Fich 182, page 005. Is anyone able to give me any further info on this William? My thanks in advance for any assistance. In hope, Rosemary
Thanks Peter. Another lister thought that it may have stopped at Liverpool. Either way, I have learned something - that it would not have been unusual for Irish immigrants to first go to Greenock before boarding. Especially if, like yours and mine, our ancestors were from Fermanagh (mine were from Enniskillen). Lynne, thanks so much for replying. That's exactly what I was after. If it left Liverpool also, then there could have been many Irish boarding from there.
