Hello members of the AUS-HOSPITALS mailing list, currently hosted on Rootsweb/Ancestry servers. My name is Peter and I have been the list administrator of this list since it was abandoned. I have no idea when it was abandoned nor who the previous admin was. On 7th January 2020, Rootsweb informed all list admins that they will not be providing any mailing list services after 2nd March 2020, except to keep the archives available (see RW email appended below). In other words, all lists will cease to be. If members want to keep this list active, they will need to host it on a new server. A number of such servers exist, such as groups.io, FaceBook, google groups. I personally do not wish to remain the admin of this list, so one of the members will need to step up as a new administrator if they want to keep this list alive. As a side comment, I think that many of the smaller lists were created on a person's whim in Rootsweb's heyday, and are probably past reviving. I can't remember when the last post to this list was. If there are any questions, please post them to the list, but do it quickly as time is running out quickly. Cheers Peter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. Hello subscribers to the aus-hospitals mailing list. All Rootsweb mailing lists have been nearly dead for the last two or so years. In February this year, Rootsweb upgraded the software that runs their 30,000 or so mailing lists, and after a few teething problems, the system is now up and running. The archives of past posts are gradually being restored, but this may take months. Subscribers may notice minor differences. The main difference for you is that you can register as a subscriber and then be able to adjust options for how you receive emails (e.g. single posts or digests in plain or MIME format, halt mail while on holidays and a few more things). Or you can just leave things as they are. As a reminder, this mailing list is for anyone with a genealogical interest in hospitals and hospital records in the Australian states and territories. To post to this list or respond to a post, use the email address aus-hospitals@rootsweb.com For questions about the operation of this list, please contact the list administrator at aus-hospitals-owner@rootsweb.com Your list is back up, so if you want to keep it active and ongoing, please post your queries or information to the list. You can access the records at State Records at Kingswood. Kaye Vernon On 23/5/18, 8:41 pm, "Robyn Kelly" <rrkelly@bigpond.com> wrote: Hi Listers, Admin, Thanks for getting this list going again. Hi Listers I am trying to pin down my great grandfather, Leonard Percy Marson (b 1871 Shoreditch, London, England), who is reported to be seriously ill in Sydney Hospital in April 1906, after ‘accidentally’ taking poison. The Newspaper report on 20 April states that though 'he was admitted in a somewhat serious condition' ... On Wednesday he was very much improved’ I wonder if there are patient records available from that time, which may give me further information… This event is the last definite record I have of him, though he has a history of using assumed names, so may never be conclusively tracked. Hullo list - I am new to this list. I am researching a Nurse Margaret WESLEY who trained at Sydney Hospital in the early 1900s and was later - before 1911 - Matron at a hospital named in family notes Carrington Private Hospital. I have not been able to find a hospital with that name. I did find a Carrington Hospital for Convalescents at Camden. Would they be one and the same? How would I verify she was Matron there? Any help appreciated, Alice
Anyone know where (indeed IF) there are archived records from Sydney Hospital? I have a GGfather, Leonard Marson (Born 1871 in England) who was last heard of in 1906, in Sydney Hospital, in a critical condition after swallowing a photographic powder. No death record anywhere in Aus, no inquest, no further info! I've tried getting in touch with Sydney Hosp re their records, but no joy yet, and they're not in the SRO. All the best, Gene

Could some one please tell me what happened to records for Cloncurry hospital. Were they kept there or sent to another hospital or area health region. I am trying to find what time period some of my relatives worked there Pat
Dear Listers, Seeking any information/contact with Ruth (possible 2nd name May HELLYER) b 26/9/1952 5:30am at the old Tennant Creek Hospital. I believe to be possibly my first cousin or 1/2 cousin, if one can have 1/2 cousins! Another branch to the family tree, previously unknown. Thanks for any help. Stephanie.
Looking for information on descendants of Dr. Thomas MCHattte of Bathurst, NSW. Thanks. Kathleen
I am looking for information on Miss Ida S. Crook, an Australian nurse who travelled to Canada where she worked for the Canadian Red Cross at their Pouce Coupe rural hospital. She was a much loved Matron of that hospital from 1923 to 1935. She married John Gordon and died in Calgary, Alberta in 1962. She is known to have written numerous letters to her sister in Australia over the years she spent in Canada. Any assistance with this research would be apperciated. Thanks, Barbara Bavinton
