Yvonne, Your message raises some very good points. I'd like to make some more points. First, am I right to believe the couple frequently sign TWO "original" registers? Both Civil and Church (if married in church or by clergy, of course)? Second, for Civil records, we need to make clear if we are getting/quoting full records, or extracts only (meaning only limited details were supplied for the fee). Third, for Church marriage, I've had some success getting the signed "applications to wed" so to speak, completed by the pair before being wed, and noted some wonderful "variations" and crossings out (!!) in the written details.
