Hi all, My gggrandfather Charles Frederick JAHN is a mystery. He was born 28/11/1844 Harz Mountains Germany. It appears that he may have arrived in Sth Australia at age of 5 but so far cannot connect him with any family arriving 1848-1850 on any shipping list. Gooday Isobelle, I have a copy of a paper entitled "MIGRANTS FROM THE HARZ MOUNTAINS IN THE KINGDOM OF HANOVER (GERMANY) 1849 - 1855. In it there is a Carl Friedrich Ludwig JAHN listed with his family. They came to SA aboard the "Dockenhuden" 26/11/1852 - 26/2/1853. His occupation was a roadworker and he was aged 17 when he came. Could this be your man? Hope so. Hi there Yvonne, The only listing is for a Christian Friedrich Julius Schröder, an ore-sorter of Clausthal, who came out on the "Auguste and Meline" 17/12/1848 - 03/04/1849, age 20. Other information: "died on the Murray before 1958". Guess he would have seeing that he was born c. 1828! Hope this helps.
