Just got home from holidays and found that a roll-call had been called, with lots of replies. My great-great parents came from the Harz mountains, more specifically from Clausthal, Zellerfeld and Altenau. They disembarked in Adelaide. G G Grandfather: Carl Heinrich Julius (Louis) LEUNIG (LEINIG), underground miner of Clausthal born 1825, arrived 1.1.1855 aboard the "Caesar Goddefroy". He married Luise Henriette Fernandiene HOLZIEGEL in Burra Burra (Kooringa) SA in September 1855. She was also known as Emma MEYER. She had been born illegitimately in Clausthal in 1825 to Johanne Augustine Henriette WUSTEFELD, her father being Johann Heinrich Friedrich ZIRKLER. Emma's mother later married Johann Carl Christian MEYER. Emma had first married Heinrick Friedrich Ludwig HOLZIEGEL in Altenau in 1846. They and their children, Johann Carl August Hermann HOLZIEGEL (Carl HOLZIGAL) and Auguste Georgine Wilhelmine HOLZIEGEL, and Emma's parents and step-brothers and sisters arrived in Adelaide in 1852 aboard the "George Washington". Emma and Louis and their children moved to Maryborough soon after their first child was born in 1856 and spent the rest of their lives gold-digging. I have quite a deal of information about these people, but any help (and photos) would be appreciated. Geoff Leunig 15 Hillandale Road Warragul Victoria 3820 Australia ph 61 3 5623 2959
