    3. Hi all, as i'm at a bit of a stand still with my family tree (it's the weekend and i have to wait for certificates to come in the mail and i can't think of anymore sites to browse through), i'm wondering what information everyone tries to find on individuals they are researching? I mainly search for birth death and marriage certificates, what else could i search for that mightlead to information and where do i find this information? Any info is appreciated, thanks, Ainslee http://www.ainsleehooper.com/

Any info is appreciated, thanks, Ainslee Gidday, all1 I've read all the replies to your query, Ainslee, and found a couple I've added to my list of 'to do's' . . I've a copy of the 'Sources for South Australian History' which is invaluable to me. It lists addresses and SRG numbers and many etceteras for locating records such as: State Chronology BDMsAll Church records Education records land records Local Govt records Service records Employment records Health & Welfare Law and Order Parliamentry papers & gazettes Newspapers Shipping Census Early photographers Directories, Almanacs, Electoral Rolls & Telephone books Place names General bibliography Probate records Cemetries Adoption Changes of name Matrimonial petitions Wouldn't it be paradisical if all states had a version of this? <eg> My German forebears came from what was Prussia (Meckelburg, to Vic) and Silesia (Wittber, to SA) and unknown (Gotte, to SA) . . trouble is these origins are now in Russia and Poland, respectively. What a burden we take on when we adopt Genealogy as a passion!! In case anyone wants the details of 'Sources for South Australian History' : Purchased from Gould Publishing Services compiled by Andrew Peake first ed. 1987 my copy 1998 ISBN 0 9589177 6 0 I've had to let my family searches slide a bit, am on permanent night duty and seem to have so little time to see my newest grandson and keep up with the living family . . <sigh> but have 3 weeks leave from late next month. There! I don't contribute much, but when I do, I write a blimmin' book <grin> Regards and happy hunting to all. 3. dear Ainslee, Dates are important to me, but even more important is the flesh of a person. The people who where at the wedding the midwife the people in their lives. For example John Stoltenberg came out to Australia on the Alster in 1862. On that ship where a young married couple whose decedents now live next door to my brother, and who we have known all my life. That makes the trip more real with real people. Diaries, stories verbal history that is very important to me. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ainslee Hooper" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 07, 2002 10:10 PM Subject: [AUS-GERMAN] What do people look for?
