Hi all! Further to this discussion, when searching for our ancestors, we discovered children baptised in the church records and buried in funeral parlour records, who have not been recorded in the civil records. Mostly these children died at birth or soon after sometimes buried with their mother who also didn't survive the event, but one child we found in cemetery records that doesn't appear in any legal listing was 12 years old. I understand that occasionally civil records got lost or damaged (water did terrible things to ink!) and so they do not appear in the listings that we are searching. I have also noticed that sometimes babes who died at or soon after birth, were only recorded in the deaths, their births weren't registered. Something to keep in mind when your searches come up blank. Chris C. where the cool change has created a dust storm!
