Edward, Thank you for your response to my posting. Unfortunately, births (as well as marriages and deaths) were only registered from 1895 onwards in the Cape Colony. Lutheran records there reveal no baptisms with reference to the "Solon". Nor do the Government Gazette indicators for Births/baptisms recorded in other churches. Nothing found "Registers of Arrivals & Departures of Ships 1817 - 1969" or the series, "Port Captain & Dock Superintendent, Table Bay Harbour 1806-1920". Also, surviving copies of the following newspapers; "The Cape Argus", "The Cape of Good Hope and Port Natal Shipping and Mercantile Gazette" and the "Cape Town Gazette and African Advertiser" for the month of March 1859 carry no reference to the "Solon", or any of her crew/passengers, at all. In addition, the Bremen Staatsarchive holds a register of persons born at sea. However, it commences from 1868 and, I believe, only refers to vessels registered to that port ie. Bremen. ("Solon" departed Bremen, but was registered to Oldenburg. The Archiv there was unable to assist at all.) Finally, the "Solon" does not appear "Log of Logs" .... any of the Volumes. So, I have tried ... must admit, though, I haven't looked at the IGI re. marine births.
