The Memorandum between KOCH and LESLIE was located 'by accident' ... it was sent to me by a fellow researcher in Sydney who knew of my interests - she came across it while looking for other material at the National Library of Australia - a real 'fluke'. I don't believe there is a collection of solely such Contracts in the respective Archives. Just a matter of if the odd one, here and there, has survived; as a result of being included/indexed with other documents eg. from a government enquiry, private bequest, etc. You could always enquire though .... Another contact of mine has a 'Certificate of Character' for her German immigrant ancestor (KOCH per "Parland" 1849) .... similarly, only a handful of these seem to have survived. This Certificate was signed by the Magistrate of prospective emigrant's village and then by the British Consul in Frankfurt - attests to his good character, gives his occupation and dates of birth for himself and dependants!! (German on one side - English on the reverse, also.) More 'off-list', Denise. Can I add to this that there is no collection and officially no copies of any of the agreements. I received one for my wife's grandfather and it too came by accident. Every now and then one seems to appear. However they are all very similar and unless you want to get very specific you only need to change the names of the migrant and you are very near to the final result. The one Lisa has shared and the one I have are very identical. I did once see another one that was also identical. Albert Grulke in wet Melbourne home of the mighty Hawks who might win one day.
