Hello Melanie, I am interested in your message, because my folks also came from the Harz and arrived in Adelaide early in 1849, on the Godeffroy. They too worked in the mining industry, starting at Glen Osmond then moving backwards and forwards between Kalgoorlie and Broken Hill. I would be interested to know if the original Ballhausen's came from around Clausthal-Zellarfeld, which was a base metal mining area im Harz and if they travelled out on the Godeffroy. I have been trying to track down a passenger list for the Godeffroy, but have only been able to find details of the folks who disembarked in Melbourne, where she called in, before arriving at Adelaide. This is my first time posting. I am researching the surname Ballhausen. My ancestors arrived from Germany in 1849, and lived in various places such as Burra (South Aust), Portland (Vic) and Ballarat (Vic). They came from Hartz, Hanover, Germany. I am also researching the surname Norton. It sounds English, but William Norton, was born in Elberfeld, Prussia (Germany), and naturalised in 1857. It's thought that he changed his name when he came here. Caroline Ballhausen married William Norton, 1850, in Burra SA. I'm interested in hearing from anybody who thinks they may be connected, researching the same line and would like to share information. I have more information than this to share. Thanks all. Melanie In beautiful Melbourne. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com ==== AUS-GERMAN Mailing List ==== For your Aus-German resources go to http://www.ainsleehooper.com/germlinks.htm ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237
