    3. Hi Albert, I can tell you my Ancestors lived in the Petersham area. John Henkel married Magdalena Reuter in the Scots church in Sydney13/7/63. He was 39 and they had his religion as Presbyterian. On his death Cert 7 yrs later, he died of Leprosy at Petersham. On the death cert they spelt his name as Henkeul and had his religion as Congregational. It also indicated that he may have been married previously. It was unknown when he came to the Colony. He was a gardener & Cooper by trade. His wife Magdalena remarried, as on their daughters marriage cert her last name is Smyth. In Aug 1888 they had been living in Elizabeth Street Sydney. Also the daughter was married in a Catholic church, & she was my Grandmothers mother, who followed the Catholic faith. They seem to have changed their religion along the way. Hope this help with your quest on the settlement in Sydney region, & I will be looking forward to your findings. Also, John Henkel daughter even though married in Sydney, her husband came from Armidale. And she also spelt her name Henkley.
