    1. Germans in Hunter Valley

    3. I have a problem. I have it on record that the first recorded group of German migrants to Australia came out in 1817. The information that I have says that they came from the Rhine Valley to work in the vineyards of the Hunter valley although it does seem that they may have worked in the Camden area more than the Hunter. Apparently the Macarthur's had a lot to do with this migration. My problem is that when I pursue it I find no reference to this elsewhere. I find a lot of data about migrants from Germany - The Rhine Valley - to Hunter Valley from 1949 through the 1850s. Does anybody have any data in regard this 1817 group? I found a document that says that there was large scale German migration between 1817 and 1860 into New South Wales but it too is vague. Thanks Albert Grulke
