Hi Irene, Sorry couldn't find her in S.A births. under Elise, Elin and Nellie Rose . The closest I could find was a Ellen Maud ROSE born 9-10-1878 Adelaide the Dist of Adelaide to George Wesley Rose and Sarah Walters. Hope you can track her down, plenty of that surname here then 1880's and present time in S.A. Regards, Judy. My ggg grandmother, Elizabeth or Eliza THATCHER lived with and had several children to a Henry STARR from 1867 to 1883 in and around the Bourke & Nyngan NSW area. She used both names in the registration of the children, guess it depended who was filling out the forms. In 1883 she married him and used the surname WIRSS and stated she was a widow. I am trying to establish whether this was genuine or just a name she picked out of the air. I have not been able to find her arrival in Australia or the birth of my gg grandfather, Henry Thomas Starr, supposedly about 1864 around Nyngan NSW. I have placed her in Bath, Somerset, England in the 1851 census with the correct birth of 1842 and parents (these details came from the marriage certificate). I would greatly appreciate any advice on where do I go next as I do not have a lot of access to NSW records. Marge [email protected] Perth Western Australia see my Family Names at http://www.wags.org.au/mid/8134.htm I do not accept emails with attachments from anyone without prior knowledge . Hi Marge Could WIRSS be a miss spelling of WIRTH? Do you have more information about the person you are searching for, that listers might check their individual records. Hi Sandra The writing on the certificate looks more like wirfs or wirps but I was told that the old style writing for 'ss' sometime looked like a 'p'. I do have Weiss in the USA family but that was long after this lady was deceased in Australia. HI there, Your surname wouldn't be WEISS by any chance? Cheers Sandra

Hi everyone, Could someone please look up in the South Australian index and see if ERNST STOLTENBERG is listed? He arrived in SA in 1854 on the 'Wandrahm', and he came from the same village and had the same surname as my Hans/John Stoltenberg who arrived in Sydney in 1862. At the very least they could have known each other. I'm almost ready to put my hand up for a single name study on STOLTENBERG, does anyone else have any ideas on that? Regards, Gillian

Hi, There is a Blankenhagen in the north of Germany between Rostock and Ribnitz-Damgarten, rather close to the Baltic Sea. This is possibly in the Vorpommern or Meckleburg 'states'. Sometimes they have a family history site on the area (I have found one for mine) and they can help. Each village usually retained parish registers and they where usually not destroyed in any war, these registers are kept in a central parish register. If you can find the name of the central parish site you can get copies to look at through the LDS. These parish registers will tell your if there are any other siblings and the parents names (sometimes where they came from if from outside the parish). Sorry I cannot help any further than that, that's as far as I have got myself. Cheers... Is the name Gassan or Gasson? If it is Gassan I may be able to help Albert Grulke -----Original Message----- From: eddie&kay cavanagh [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, 4 February 2002 8:13 To: [email protected] Subject: [AUS-GERMAN] Gasson Family Hi List I'm a newbie to this list and wondering if anyone can help me. My 3ggrandparents came out to Sth Aust on the San Francisco in 1850. They were Johann his wife Marie nee Schneider and child (report from newspaper). My 2 ggrandmother Elizabeth would have been about 15 at this time. According to the Hoffnunstahl Church Register she was born at Turnow in Brandenburg 18 Aug 1835. The passenger manifest was no help as the G pages were stuck together. Does anyone know anything about this family? Elizabeth m Karl Lemm, they lived at Hoffnungstahl and then moved to PetersHill and he died in 1872 at Point Pass, she remarried in 1888 at Tarcowie to a Thomas Ford. Her death was at Tarcowie 1900. Johann Gasson died at PetersHill 1862. I cannot find the death of Marie Gasson, I'm wondering if she remarried or whether like her son in law Karl Lemm her death is not recorded in SA records. (Info of his death was found by a distant relative at the Lutheran Archives, Nth Adelaide. Before I found this out, a connection checked the records at the Point Pass Lutheran Church and found he was buried at Immanuel Point Pass Cemetery). Hi List This discussion pertains to genealogy because of the name changes. 10% + of the AIF were German descent and not necessarily with German surnames, if you go to www.awm.gov.au and type your German name in the WW1 nominal roll you probably find the name you are after. My wife's friend is a Frank and when I checked the BDM's for her 1910,1913,1915 and 1917, the names were Carl Johan Franke, Johanna Franke, then with the Wartime births, Ethel Gallipolli Frank and John Anzac Frank, I kid you not. I did write to the War Memorial in regard to this question on Germanic names and did not receive a reply as I have a distant relation KIA in Crete he was a Piltz, all up 9 Piltz's served in both wars, the Australian Air Vice Marshal (RAAF) was Germanic from early settlers, the Poms would not allow our head of the air Force to serve in Europe because of his name. I hope this helps. Edward
This is my first posting to this list. I am seeking the family history of Ada Pauline Feitz and Johan Schubert, parents of Emilie Pauline, born 1874 at Wodonga Victoria. I would be happy to compare notes with anyone interested in these families.
Hi List, Another query Theodor ISERNHAGEN b abt 1843-1844 at ? the son of Johann Paul Martin Isernhagen married Rosalie Emielly SEIBOTH born 1854 Tanunda S.A. the daughter of Carl Gustav SEIBOTH and Florentine Emilie nee SEVERIN. Rosalie and Theodor married 30-9-1877 at the residence of Mr Wickliens at Yorketown. S.A. The groom was aged 34 years and a widower Rosalie was aged 23 years. I haven't found any children born to this couple??!! "A" Johann Joachim Theodor Isernhagen died 5-12-1896 aged 52 years,so could be him as the age would be about right., he died at Black Hill S.A. District of Crafers. I am wondering if any lister is researching this surname and connected to this family? Hoping for some success as really stuck, here. I can't find the first marriage in S.A. for Theodor? Regards and many thanks in advance, Judy.
Thank you to everyone who replied to my email, lots of good advice and knowledge, which I will endeavour to put to good use. Regards Jenny http://greetings.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Greetings - Send your Valentines love online.
Hi all, I have quite a "curly" one here and hoping there is a connection amongst the listers. I have a Minna SEIBOTH marrying A Christian Carl WESSENDORF he was shown as the son of Christop and Minna as the daughter of Carl Gustav SEIBOTH? though I can't find her as his daughter as I seem to have them all accounted for.!? Though, Carl Gustav's sister, Marie Elisabeth Seiboth born abt 1840's had a daughter at Kapunda S.A. out of wedlock to father Julius Wachowsky on 31-12-1862 and they called her Ottillie Emma Marie Seiboth. Does any lister out there think that one of her christian names could have gone as "Minna"? Ottillie may have married Christian Carl WESSENDORF on 2-1-1890 she was shown as Minna and age 24 and single the daughter of Gustav Seiboth, Christian as a widower and age 61 yrs and the son of Christoph Wessendorf. They married at the residence of C Maschmedt at Klemzig. S.A. I haven't been able to find Christian's death in S.A as a Minna WESSENDORF remarried a John EDWARDS age 36 and the son of John Edwards. Minna was shown as a widow and age 40 yrs. Her father this time was shown as Frederick Seiboth and they married at Angas College North Adelaide. I haven't been able to find any other Seiboths arriving in S.A. other than Carl Gustav's mother and three other children. Carl Gustav Seiboth married Florentine Emilie SEVERIN in 1854 Tanunda S.A. and they had three children, Rosalie Emilie born 1854, Carl Gustav Seiboth jnr born 1857 and Anna Marie Elisabeth born 1859. Florentine Emilie died 1859 and buried Tabor Lutheran cemetery, Tanunda. Carl Gustav remarried 1860 to Caroline AESCHE. Carl Gustav Senior and his brother Franz Seiboth may have arrived in S.A. before their mother did in 1854 as Carl Gustav married in Feb 1854 and Franz was a witness, their arrival and ship are still a mystery after 10 years of research! As for the brothers arrival in Australia or South Aust I have had no success in finding. Franz later went to N.Z to reside, I have been able to locate a "rellie" of his over there and we have exchanged family tree info, this was a great find and we are both thrilled! I am wondering if there is a connection with anyone on this list that may be able to help me with the Wessendorf or Edwards info? There was one child that I could find born from the first marriage Lena Wessendorf born 30-8-1890 Norwood S.A. The Edwards marriage was in 1909 after the 1842-1906 S.A. Births CD. so have no way of checking later S.A. births. Hoping that I haven't bored you all to tears with this saga and you have been able to follow it all. Thanks for reading it all, will love to hear from anyone that may be able to help with any of this query. Regards and happy hunting and good luck with your research, Judy.
