    3. Dear Sandra Thanks for the information. Some I already knew and one of the dates is different from what I have so will have to check it out further. It has extended my knowledge of them a little further which is great. Thanks again. I look forward to reading whatever information you are able to find on Carl Schaefer/Schafer. 3. Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately this does not help as my FREDERICK ROMMEL got married in 1888 and died somewhere around 1930. Thanks anyway. I have checked his marriage certificate and it does NOT state his parents name. A great mystery indeed! 1. [AUS-GERMAN] surname: MEIS/MAES
    2. Robyn Bath
    3. Hi, my name is Robyn and I live in Brisbane. I have been doing Family History for 3 years now, and I am having trouble with my husbands German ancestors. Gottlieb MEIS arrived in Adelaide in 1855 from Liverpool Eng. (don't know when they left Germany for England) with wife Catherine and 2 children, Gottlieb Henry age 8 and Charlotte Barbara age 6, their name changed to MAES and they lived around the Bendigo area. On Henry Gottlieb MAES death cert. his mother's name is Catherine DOERFLEEN and he was born on 28 June 1847 Germany. I have found a Christening on the LDS for Heinrick Gottlieb MASS, 20 Dec 1818 See Buckow, Pommern, Preussen. This could be Henry's father. What I would like to know is: 1. The surname DOERFLEEN, I can't find a thing on it. 2. How do I obtain information on birth and marriages in Germany. Any help no matter how small will be great. Hope this message isn't to long winded Regards Robyn

    3. Good morning from a new subscriber - once again I am amazed at the resources on the net. I guess like all of you I am researching the family tree. I like to be able to do it from my PC where possible, sop I was well pleased when I found http://www.biblio.tu-bs.de/cgi-bin/acwww25u/wbi_neu_en/regsrch.pl It is a database of biographical entries from many and varied sources. If you find a person you are interested in, you can get a list of all the books in which they are mentioned. Even though this database is in Germany, it contains information of people from many countries. I have found many of my extended family, and I plan to waddle off to the Latrobe Library with my list of books to consult. Then I found this - Name: Kumm, Hermann Karl Wilhelm Dates: 1874- mentioned: ca. 1935 Occupations: Generalsekretär der Sudan United Mission Groups: Statespersons, Politicians Archive: Deutsches Biographisches Archiv Fiche: II 772,354 Title of Source: Wer ist's 1935 [= Short title] Degeners Wer ist's?. - X. Ausgabe. - Berlin. - 1935 My family includes CATO. Not the Roman one, just those from Bedfordshire. They were very early settlers into Hobart and Adelaide. One of them, Frances Gertrude CATO married Hermann in 1912. I have worked out the above book is a who's who of Germany in 1935, but I cannot read German. Does anyone out there have this book? and can you please interpret the info into English please? Shirley Elrick in Melbourne, Australia.
