Thanks for the offer, Gail. :) I had GOTTE's, WITTBER's and SIEGELE (Seigel/Siegel) and arriving about that time, I'd appreciate if you would have a quick look to see if any are on your lists. When you say 'Wends' . . what do you mean? Do they come from a particular area? My families come from the Kingdoms of East and West Prussia (now Russian and Polish) and from Silesia, also said to be in the Kingdom of Prussia, according to the naturalisation papers. They all settled in South Australia, but I'm unsure where the Gotte's originally landed. Many thanks, Wachita aka Pat Hewett mailto:[email protected]

Hi Yvonne The Biographical Index of South Australians 1836-1885 lists the following Schraders and their families: August Ferdinand, Carl, Heinrich Christian Ludwig, Herman Friedrick, Joseph, Frederick and Hinderick Lederick Frederick. Hi, Have you tried looking in South Australian bdm records. There are quite a few Muellers listed in the Biographical Index of South Australians 1836-1885 but none matching the names you have given. Some Germans migrated to South Australia and then moved on to Victoria and New South Wales in search of gold and land on which to settle. Hi all, just a request in advance, could we please refrain from any September 11 stuff on the list? Thanks for your cooperation, Ainslee http://www.ainsleehooper.com/
Barbara If he was married before Charlotte, the details about him on this marriage cert may be false, especially if he had not divorced the first wife. That's what my grandfather did, the details on the first MC were correct but false on the second. Have you tried the records of the other states of Oz? There were a lot of Germans from SA (mine included) and they often slipped over into NSW (which mine did too). SA death records can be checked right up to 1968 on microfiche. I know what you mean about going insane - I have a problem in one of my lines that is having that affect on me too!! Where did all this happen Barbara? My Oscar married one wife here in NSW and my grandmother in Qld. I have seen both certs and he changed his surname from Miller to Muller on the second as well as his place of birth and Mothers maiden name. The correct ones were given on the first cert not the second Charmaine ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Giorno" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 09, 2002 4:04 PM Subject: [AUS-GERMAN] MUELLER help > Hi Charmaine, > How many scroundrels were out there I wonder? > Another fact I didn't mention was thas Louis had disappeared by the time > my gfather was 4 years old. Hi Barbara I think Charmaine's idea is plausible, so I'd check out dates on both. My Nuske's are also Nusche, Neuske, the German with 2 dots on the "u" for Nuske - that apparently replaces the "u". they further are also Noske. I'd therefore imagine that Muller (with dots), & Mueller are really the one name. If he already had a wife - he could have anglised the name to Miller to sound more "English". His given names being Louis and August(us) that you have said you have swapped...most seach engines come up with anything close. Do you have his brothers & sisters? A lot of germans had 3 given names, so perhaps you might find reference to him through the rest of the family? Or search the correct time frame - you don't mention where you were searching - like what country? did you only search Australia or what? dear Ainslee, Dates are important to me, but even more important is the flesh of a person. The people who where at the wedding the midwife the people in their lives. For example John Stoltenberg came out to Australia on the Alster in 1862. On that ship where a young married couple whose decedents now live next door to my brother, and who we have known all my life. That makes the trip more real with real people. Diaries, stories verbal history that is very important to me. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ainslee Hooper" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, September 07, 2002 10:10 PM Subject: [AUS-GERMAN] What do people look for? Former migrant Margot Schargenberg (Nee Ripperger) on M.S. Nelly departed Bremin Germany on 28 October 1952 arriving Melbourne 6 December 1952 would like to make contact with other passengers. This was the 1st migration of German married couples as well as single migrants after WW2. On arrival at Melbourne, passengers were relocated to Bonegilla and some 24 migrants were later relocated to Orange on 1 January 1953. As 50 years is nearing since arrival in Australia Margot would like to hear from any other fellow passengers.
