    3. Hi Ted With the Tasmanian Conduct records, they are arranged alphabetically by year of arrival. As you will know the year of arrival, then it is quite easy to flick through to the particular year and then go through page by page. You can test this out by going to the first page and checking the first year of arrival - then go to the last page and again check the arrival year of those convicts. Let us say 1823 is the first and 1850 is the last and your convict arrived about 1837, you would go to abut half way of the pages available and check those. That sounds a bit convoluted - but it's late :) You really have to know the name (both Christian and Surname) of your convict before commencing any research. regards Lesley Uebel mailto:[email protected] CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Ted & Magi Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2008 10:39 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [AUS-CON] Convict FOWLERS The State Library of Queensland has produced a Convict transportation register on line which gave me 77 convicts named FOWLER transported between 1787 and 1867. The Tasmanian archives also give FOWLERS sent to Tasmania between 1823 and 1850. The Tasmanian site has references and links to further information about the convicts including a digitalised volume on conduct records. Very interesting but 188 unindexed pages takes a fairly long time to download and browse page by page. I am sure some lister has followed these links before and may care to share their experience on how to find the most information on line. I'm happy enough to visit a library or family history centre but I'm a fair way away from a large centre and I'd like to know what to look for before I arrive. TIA Ted
