Gerry, You will find most states who had convicts have info on them. If you could be a little more specific which state they came to then it will probably be a bit easier to help you. The folks here are very helpful and will assist you in anyway we can.. usually there is at least on person who will do a lookup for you depending on what your asking for of course. To add to Marg M's advice earlier. Queensland also had convicts and yes we do have records though they are not online as yet. (the specific Moreton Bay records) which were in fact part of New South Wales (we didnt achieve separation until 1859) However if you look at www.slq.qld.gov.au you will find a link to 120,000 convicts which came to australia... out of about 166,000. A few of mine are not there... so dont be too disheartened if they are not there there are miles of sources for convicts in Australia. As to what happened to them after they were released from their servitude. there are many options. they could have been involved in the Gold Rush... perhaps they settled with some land somewhere in which case there would be records with both of those... again depending where will depend on the quality. Also they may have returned to wherever they came from. A look at the state in which they served as convicts usually would be the first place you would start to search with Births Deaths and Marriages. and then look at the states surrounding it. (Victoria was in the midst of the massive Gold Rush in the 1850's) Queensland had big Gold Rushes up north too at around that time.. and a bit after. and im sure NSW was as well somewhere. Also if you look at immigration records around that time you might find their families have joined them in Australia. If you look at Coraweb as suggested by Carol.... you will find a wealth of information including links to finding their trial info. If your convict was a convict of New South Wales or Tasmania you are especially in luck as most of their information has been indexed and is available online. hope this helps you below are a few websites that will most likely be of assistance.
