    3. Hi Peter, This site will tell you something about convict tattoos http://members.iinet.net.au/~perthdps/convicts/res-14.html I have a convict who was an Army deserter. His papers say he was branded with a "D" Can anyone tell me where this D might have been put on his person. Thanks Carol

    3. Hi Peter. My partner's convict ancestor was branded with a D for desertion under his armpit. Not sure if this was standard practice.     3. Hi Carol, My convict had DD branded on the back of his left hand. We have never worked out what that meant. I hope someone out there knows.
