Thanks to all for all the interesting replies on the Parramatta site. our ancestor Margaret Hughes AKA Mary Ann Whalan was sent there in 1830, we have tried long ago to find if there may be some records of her being there but had no luck. Yes Kath, records are very hard to come by. I have never found anything more than a reference in the Colonial Sec's correspondence for my ancestor: On arrival in Sydney, Honora McCue, housekeeper, with "female child" was sent to the "Parramatta Factory" (Colonial Secretary's Index 1788-1825 Nov. 25 1818 ).
