Hi Listers, Can any lister advise whether a certificate of freedom was ALWAYS issued when a transported convict's sentence had expired? My GG grandmother's brother, sentenced on the Isle of Man 1833 and arrived in Sydney on the Mary Ann 1835 was issued with a ToL by the Muswellbrook Bench #44/1537 and allowed to remain in the District of Moreton Bay. His sentence would have expired in 1847. I have found no convict death in custody nor any other registered BMD associated with Thomas. I have found a Thomas LYNCH leaving on the Victoria for California in 1849, most probably for the gold. I have found nothing else. Cheers Peter Melbourne
