    3. It is all very sad these days when others just copy what others have researched and then try and pass it off as their own research. I, too, have found my family information on the net and the excuse was that the information was public domain! thing is the birth details of my siblings it NOT public domain at present and will not be for many years to come. You will find that some of these *contributors* have tens of thousands of names up and many of these are not even connected to their families. Some harvest information found on the net.... and on Mailing Lists and because of this you should take care about the type of information you share. One should also be cautious about adding family information to web sites, which is why, on my web site, I only allow people to add their email address to convicts. There have always been the 'doers' and the' takers' in life, and since the invention of computers, theft of family history information has become rife. It is just so easy to copy and paste. I find information I have transcribed on many lists with absolutely no attribution at all. It is a sad day indeed when a few ruin it for others. There are also those who take information on an extensive basis i.e. copy complete CDs and then put the information up on the net as their own.. or try to. It is for this reason that some will no longer make available anything on a CD and are compelled to produce a book instead as a book is far more difficult to copy. CD piracy is widespread and some have complete disregard for copyright. Regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/index.html
