Hi Allan, At the risk of having to endure the childish and totally uncalled for jibes of Miss Kerri Ferguson, I would like to be of some help with an answer. I am at a loss to understand what motivates some people to be so nasty. Is the second number you have quoted 40/1839 or 40/1939? Usually when a convict was issued with a Ticket of Leave or Certificate of Freedom a clerk would go back to the original Indent and note the numbers of the ToL or CF on it. Carol
How sad that you have misunderstood my sense of humour Carole! My message was purely meant as a good-humoured note of how EVERYONE loves to show off ("showing off" meant in the nicest possible way as I have yet to meet a genie who didn't like to take the opportunity to air their knowledge.) If I have offended, my apologies. I am at a loss to understand why this kind of response would have been draw from you considering the extremely nasty comments I have seen pass on this site with never a mention made over the last few years. Some of the remarks so cutting and biting that I literally cringed on behalf of the recipients. As I said I am at a loss to understand your response. I recall recently when someone posted a most inappropriate joke (albeit as it turned out by error) on this site recently and I objected (before it was apparent it was an "accident") and I commented that I found it most inappropriate, not only was there hardly murmur from others BUT those who DID echo my objections were put down in a most rude and uncalled for way. I find this most puzzling. Perhaps I may have been better off posting a risqué joke! There is great fun in having some information to pass on to someone who may be needing it. The term "show off" is meant in its absolute literal sense and not as a barb. Please chill out, Carole - I hope to see in the future, as a quick a response to the comments posted here which ARE downright spiteful and nasty. I can't imagine why you take offence but it seems you have. Childish? You are entitled to your own opinions as am I. And over the years I have been shocked at some of the comments posted on this site with not, as I said, a murmur. I don't believe everybody's motives in passing on information are entirely altruistic do you? Hello Carol, the second number certainly is 40/1939 and is taken from a copy of the Ships muster for the Asia upon arrival in Sydney 1831. If it of any help the name above is McCormick and the reference number there seems to be C39/55/36/880 For any suggestions I will be most grateful.
