    3. Hi Michelle Robert Poplin (Poplan, Popling and various spellings) was tried at the April Quarter Sessions of Peace in 1792. Age given was 18 and he described himself as a Labourer. He had been sentenced to serve 7 years Robert Poplin was buried at the old Sydney Burial Ground cemetery where the Town Hall now stands in Sydney in 1806 Check the City of Sydney web site at: http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/AboutSydney/HistoryAndArchives/OldSydneyBuria lGround.asp#DL and if that does not work try: http://tinyurl.com/3ee2fl The Sydney Gazette has a short article about him - dated 4 March 1804 Joseph Griffin exhibited a Complaint against Robert Poplin, for having wickedly and designedly thrown at him a number of stones, one of which struck and wounded him on the head, without any other provocation than that of going into his boat in order to secure his own; which Poplin admitted to be the case; but added, that in doing so he had made a conveniency of his, and was so altogether unconcerned at her safety that he had momentarily expected to behold her bottomless, a prospect by which he was most irritated: and that after repeatedly ordering him to quit her without effect, had recourse to the measure of PELTING the Complainant, who accidentally received a blow from a stone that actually was not designed to strike him, but which was attended with the most salutary consequences to his boat. They were permitted to withdraw in order to a private adjustment, but the complainant setting too exorbitant a price upon his head, it was again submitted to the Bench, who ordered a Fine of Twenty Shillings to be paid to the Orphan Institution. According to the NSW BDMs on-line he had one child with Elizabeth Jones V18021149 1A/1802 POPLING ROBERT ROBERT ELIZABETH (JONES) In the 1828 NSW Census Robert junior may have changed his name to James and he is listed as an Overseer working for James Hassell at Bathurst James (or Robert junior) appears to have married Mary Ivory in 1834 in Sydney and they had a number of children up till about 1854.
