Many thanks to Sue (Olsen), all the information and advice has been taken onboard! I realise now I will have to be a lot more precise as to which area in Australia I begin my research, so I shall enquire about the book you mentioned, and get back to studying my notes! Many thanks for such a quick and helpful repsonse. Margaret
Hi Margaret, wow... that was a quick response.. (then I remembered its daytime there right??) Yes it would be a good idea if you look into where your relative was sent to... (most likely New South Wales) but not certainly... other areas had direct convict imports. (tasmania is one major one) JG STEELE... is quoted in almost every new - release book on convicts in Moreton Bay as a source... as it is the most correct.... of all the books on the Moreton Bay District.... if you were to post the name of your relative on the list... more than likely someone will be able to find where they ended up... (if they ended up here at all ).. I forgot to mention this before that not all convicts sentenced to Transportation... were transported.. some were kept in prison hulks... whilst their trial records say they were transported... they may not have been... So its a little bit of a tricky thing at times to find out what exactly happened.. though most cases you can usually find them somewhere here in Australia.... anyway like I said before.. If I can be of any help.. if you find out your relative was subsequently sent to Moreton Bay... let me know.. and I'll see what I can find out for you. Regards Sue.
