I have a few on my tree Hamilton Hume father of Explorer was a convict John Taber was a teacher and started the first private school in Sydney leaving a parcel of land that he was given for the first Jewish church and school and another was a poor Irish catholic farmer from Tyrone James Mcgrath who had a run in with the constabulary in 1827 and was sentenced to life in the colony Not 1 of these were from *villainous families * all 3 were what we in todays colloquialisms were *set up*..what ever the colony needed was supplied one way or the other I am sure when I go further I will find more It would be interesting to have the time to just collect a convict and bring him to modern time rather than just spending time on our own lines Christene
