He was tried in Nottingham Town Quarter Sessions on 4 January 1842 and arrived on 5 July 1842. He was sentenced for 7 years for stealing iron from the Station House yard. He was married (wife Margaret) and had thee children at Nottingham. He was a blacksmith aged 33 when he arrived but had been a soldier. He received his Certificate of Freedom in January 1849.
