My GG Grandmother Mary Vaughan who married Samuel Powell in Wales in 1813 in Brecon ( Breconshire Wales), no parents on the IGI, Mary was a convict and was sentenced to 7 years, information from my cousin Bernie who has been researching for thirty years so my time to pick up a thread, Mary finished her sentenced before she came to Australia in 1820 on the Convict Ship Earl St Vincent with Samuel, I have scanned the Old Bailey Records and found nothing, could she have been sentenced in Wales or maybe Scotland. Hi Leah Did Mary serve her sentence in Australia and then return to the UK? And was this before or after her marriage to Samuel? Not all trials in England were held at the Old Bailey. There were lots of local (circuit) courts where trials were held to deal with local offenders. If she committed her offence in Wales, Scotland or Ireland she would have been tried in the relevant country.
