    3. Lesley I have finally got Robert Winters' death certificate, 10440. He died 18 Sep 1913 in Newtown, aged 75. Occupation, miner. Father, Job Winters (Occupation, miner), Mother, Ann Mills. Born in Co Clare Ireland and time in colony/state "upwards of 70 years". Spouse Caroline Bates who attested on Ada M Winters' Birth Certificate, Robert was born in 1839 in Melbourne. The dates are consistent. As far as I know, Job and Ann Mills were convicts. Where to now? I understand Jacob came from Berkshire and Catherine from Kilkenny, Ireland. Jacob was sentenced to 14 years and would have been free by 1833 so Catherine must have applied to the Governor to marry. 3. Hi Phil, What makes you think they were convicts? Robert Winters must have come to the colony with his parents as a young child according to information on death certificate which makes it unlikely that the parents were convicts if they all came together. Is the father's name Jacob or Job Winters. Have a look at http://www.slq.qld.gov.au/info/fh/convicts which is the Convict Transport Registry database. There are lots of Winter/Winters on it but no Job or Jacob that I can see. It is not 100% complete. Also try to Irish Gift database online for Irish convicts. http://www.nationalarchives.ie/search/ Also if you do a Google search under County Clare you will find lots of information to search in that area. 3. Carol There is a Jacob Winters on Mariner 1816. Nevertheless, I am going to seek the marriage certificate of Job and Ann Mills to sort this out.
