Hi List, I have a convict who arrived in NSW in 1837 just in time for the 1837 census. Under "master" it shows Town Surveyor's Department, Sydney. I've tried googling and also the NSW Archives to try and find out what he might have been doing, but without success. Does this mean he was on a road gang, or does anyone have any other suggestions please? Cheers Trish Nowra NSW
Trish, We will be indexing the road gangs shortly at the State Archives so check with me in a month or so and see if we have completed it.
