    1. [AUS-CON] Hello again!
    2. Neil & Jan Hearn
    3. Dear Tracey, It was lovely to receive your cheery message and to hear that all is well. I'm glad to hear that Emily's rash is clearing up well. Mike seems to be keeping busy. You'll be pleased to have him to yourself for awhile when you travel to Tamworth on the weekend. You'll have a good choice of outfits from their shops at this time of year. Some of the new seasons fashions look really nice. We're having a cooler day today but it's been very summery since the beginning of September really. Hope it doesn't get too hot for a while yet. We'll be back in the pool before long. Shelley and Lachlan are both fairly well. Shell has a cough and sore throat which she can't seem to get rid of. She's going to the doctor about it today so hope he can help her . Lachie is taking part in a 70's dance with his class and has been practicing for that ...finding a suitable outfit was a challenge! His break up party for soccer is this weekend. He may be presented with a medallion as a participant which will delight him I'm sure. Fondest wishes to all of you, Jan

    1. Re: [AUS-CON] Margaret DAY ... maybe a Catholic burial?
    2. Annette Cooke
    3. Thanks Lesley My story has been that I was told by someone that they had obtained a baptismal record for an 1833 St Marys Cathedral record but she could no longer find it. After a lot messing around the Qld Genealogical Society told me that SAG in Sydney had those records, I enquired and was hit by the $40.00 an hour which at that stage I could not afford. I also got the Qld State Library to check their records and they came up with nothing, though I believed they had the same records as NSW State Library. Recently I emailed the Catholic Church Archives, even knowing I was out of line. They advised me those records that did not make BDM were available at SAG, NSW State Library and National Library. I have contacted the NSW State Library and will see what happens. I know that record is somewhere as I believe the person who told me about it. If that fails, then I guess I fork out for SAGS, then every possible avenue has been investigated. So I guess its worth your trying too, Thanks Annette > > Well, last night I fished out another Vine Hall book, _Parish Registers > in Australia_ (2nd Ed), 1990. > > It is of course out of date - but, it *does* include a contact address > for Parramatta St Patrick's Cathedral (RC), with the comment that in > 1990, at least some parish registers of this NSW church were held by > Dean Brian Larkey. > > It also says (p10): > > "Although early New South Wales parish registers were called in by > Government authorities to the central registry for copying: in the > period from about 1900-1930, some churches did not surrender their > records for this purpose. 3. Hi Annette, Well, last night I fished out another Vine Hall book, _Parish Registers in Australia_ (2nd Ed), 1990. It is of course out of date - but, it *does* include a contact address for Parramatta St Patrick's Cathedral (RC), with the comment that in 1990, at least some parish registers of this NSW church were held by Dean Brian Larkey. It also says (p10): "Although early New South Wales parish registers were called in by Government authorities to the central registry for copying: in the period from about 1900-1930, some churches did not surrender their records for this purpose. This was particularly the case with the Roman Catholic Church" Not my usual stamping ground ... but I *would* like to find the burial of Margaret DAY :-) Cheers, Lesley (In cloudy Melbourne) > Does SAG really hold records that are no where else. 3. Hi Lesley and Listers Does SAG really hold records that are no where else. I thought the State Library also held them. I have been looking for a baptism record for a long time, and it is not in the State Library, so maybe it is hidden away at SAG. The cost of having someone search for it at $40.00 an hour somewhat put me off, but I guess I will have to do it. 3. Hi Sue and Listers, I have had another thought, about the missing Margaret DAY ... might she have been given a Catholic burial, and the record not have found its way to the NSW BDMs? A check of my trusty Vine-Hall shows that the first RC church in NSW was St Patrick's, Parramatta, established in 1824. Margaret and Marcellas were married in 1825 at St Luke's, Liverpool ... but, the description of Marcellas says he was RC, so perhaps he had his wife buried as a Catholic? According to Vine-Hall, these records are held by the SAG. I'm wondering is that's where Marcellas's christening record is, too, as it doesn't appear in the NSW BDMs, despite his being born in the colony c1802 :-) Cheers, Lesley (In now *cold* - again - Melbourne) > His Description is as follows > > Aged: 23 Years > Height 5 foot 9 Inches > Skin: Sallow Complexion > Hair: Light Brown > Eyes: Grey > *Religion: RC >

    3. Hi Sue, That is very, very interesting :-) Margaret and Marcellas has already had one child, William Henry DAY, b 28 Oct 1826 in Parramatta. Could Margaret perhaps have returned to him for a time - or had some continuing relationship with him, as the father of her eldest son?.Was there some question about the paternity of her last two children, so that they were christened simply in her name? (The BLINMAN children have the mother's name as Margaret DAY, in the records - not simply as Margaret). All *kinds* of fascinating possibilities ... and, did Charles leave her out of his Will, because she had returned to her legal husband? Marcellas DAY certainly waited until 1851, before marrying Mary TAPPER, by which stage he was aged 49 ... had he been living with Margaret for at least part of the intervening years? I only have four: Mary Ann b 12 Oct 1828 Charles John b 1833 Elizabeth b 13 Mar 1835 George b 25 Nov 1838 Only these four are mentioned in his Will, which is undated (in the transcription I have), but mentions his son George BLINMAN, born 25 Nov 1838, so was obviously written after that. So, were more children born after the Will was made? Possible - Charles died 16 December 1842, and the last child born to Margaret DAY was born two days after that - 18 December 1842. Possible, I guess, that Charles simply did not update his Will to take account of the last two children ... but why was Margaret omitted from the Will, if she was still alive and bearing him children? Male chauvinism? (But even Shakespeare left his wife his second-best bed) :-) Cheers, Lesley (In cold, windy Melbourne)
