    3. Marg. I suspect a family history centre or larger library would have these services...as I said a 9 hr travel does not make this worth while I have found reference to a ticket of leave datd 1845 He was sent here 1838 which tells me that it was a 7yr sentence ..... What I am really after is Michael dowling entering oz I have not found him as an immigrant so just started a search to see if he were a convict even though his marriage and death certs do not say this nor mention time in colony My Michael Dowling died Ashfield 1907 aged 87 which gives him a birth of 1820cc which would have have him transported 18 and a ticket of leave at 25 the transportation reads Ireland I have my Michael from Ireland when he married in Moruya in 1851 his death cert also reads Ireland no county mentioned but parents Kevin and Jane. All I need is an age for the convict to be a bit surer..and less reluctant to buy certs with a probability of them not being him I have checked bounty immigration as well hoping to find siblings of my chap entering oz but nothing there and unfortunately nsw records, com do not mention parents So I will just keep hunting Maisy E-mail message checked by Spyware Doctor (6.0.0.386) Database version: 5.11121 http://www.pctools.com/en/spyware-doctor-antivirus/

    3. Chrissy, You might try your search from the Irish end. Go to http://www.nationalarchives.ie/topics/transportation/search01.html I also did a Google search for Irish Convicts Transported and there seemed to be several other possible online sources. I found one of my ancestors this way. John Dodds (San Francisco- sunny and unusually warm in the middle of early winter!!?) ----- Original Message ----- , and search for your convict. 3. Hi List, I've been chasing this reprobate around the NSW indexes for some time now and have a reasonable record for him. I have birth 1806, marriage, conviction and transportation. His Tkt of Leave, name of partner and birth and death of children, subsequent convictions upto 1879 at age of 73 for stealing horse and saddle for which he got 12 months hard labour and his picture taken. His age was shown as 65 but his date of baptism was 1806. AKA John Bunion and John Parsons, and there the trail stops. His time in Australia seems to have been spent entirely in the Mudgee - Bathurst area. I can't find any record of his death or burial. Would there be a record of his release if he didn't die in prison? I'd be grateful for any information from somebody with more skill and knowledge than I have (I'll even settle for luck). Thanks in advance Ted

    3. Hi list, I have never had course to go down this road but I wonder if some of you with greater knowledge regarding convicts can help to either prove or disprove the following. Sarah GLEAVE, and the surname is all I have to go on, hoping it is unusual enough to find, stated that she is 34 and a widow as told to the officers of the Board Of Guardians for Bakewell Union. She is to be found listed under Taddington,Derbyshire parish but was actually living in Ecclesall Bierlow, nr. Sheffield,Yks. She claimed to have two children by her late husband. Further enquiry by the Relieving Officer uncovers the fact, supposedly, that her husband had been transported for seven years but his time will soon be up. Her children, either the two above, or another two are mentioned thus " has had two bastard children since her husband was sent off". The date is Feb 1839, the earlier information came from 1838. So I imagine transportation would be around 1832. Is it possible to to find Mr GLEAVE and confirm this woman's story. I am also assuming he was sent to Australia and nowhere else. mike -- http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm
