    3. The Last Confession Of Alexander Pearce 8:35pm Sunday, 25 Jan 2009, ABC1 http://www.abc.net.au/tv/guide/netw/200901/programs/DO0703H001D25012009T203500.htm In 1822, eight men escape from the most isolated and brutal prison on earth, Sarah Island in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). Only one man survives and his tale of betrayal, murder and cannibalism shocks the British establishment to the core. His story is The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce. The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce follows the final days of Irish convict Alexander Pearce's (Ciarán McMenamin) life as he awaits execution. The year is 1824 and the British penal colony of Van Diemen's Land is little more than a living hell.During his six months incarcerated in the Hobart gaol, chained to a wall in the darkness of a cell, Pearce is visited by Father Philip Conolly (Adrian Dunbar), the parish priest of the fledgling colony and a fellow Irishman. Conolly's faith in his God is tested by what he hears. Told as a factual drama, The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce draws a visceral and compelling picture of hell on earth and tells how one man endured the unimaginable by doing the unthinkable. Might be worth a look ! Diane

    3. Hello to a fellow Welshman! A quick Google found this web site http://mj.illallangi.com/family.php?famid=F484 Have you seen it already? Frances Williams & Robert Ryan were both on The Prince of Wales arriving Sydney 1788. Looks like she had 2 children with Robert Ryan on NI & then took up with John Cropper having another child. Two of her children ended up in Tasmania - maybe she died there. I can't help directly with a website , BUT, the following info comes from a local Cootamundra history (available at http://www.cootamundra.local-e.nsw.gov.au/files/1023/File/History.pdf) 1884 Cootamundra was gazetted a municipality of 3,010 acres, about 9 sq miles (23.30 sq km) on May 20. 1907 The Jindalee Shire of 583 sq miles (app. 1510 sq kms) was proclaimed - previously Cowcumbala Shire. So at least you have a couple of shire/county location names and dates to look for. The history is actually quite interesting. I commend the local Historical Society for producing it. Certainly gives you a feel for how and when the town developed.
