    3. Cliff I am currently transcribing prison records for the early nineteenth century and have found that quite a few people were sentenced to death, reprieved to be transported and then given the King's mercy to be sent to the armed forces (possibly a worse option than transportation at that time) or given hard labour instead. It would be worth checking whether the prison records still exist in Hampshire for the period concerned as they should state where he went after the prison. If he was sent to the Hulks he probably was transported unless he died on them (which many did)..a few people were freed from the Hulks but not many. 3. SLQ stands for State Library of Queensland. There is a marriage for James Cranfield to Mary Smith in 1829 at Church of England Hoxham Newcastle in the NSW BDMs  -Births, Deaths, Marriages - www.bdm.nsw.gov.au You could apply for this certificate or a transcript - even though it is the wrong first name - it is the right year, the right surname and the right general area. There were 20 Brennans listed on the Qld State Library website but none listed as arriving on the Royal Admiral and none listed as Martin Brennan. Perhaps someone else on the list can suggest another avenue. 1. Re: [AUS-CON] Robert CASON b.1792

    3. Hello Lisa, I have had a bit of a look around and your Robert Cason, at least the one christened in Sudbury around 1790 is listed on a Rootsweb World Connect site called  Causton one name study (apparently Cason is a variation of Causton) see http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.causton/ The marriage you talk of before his conviction is there - his wife was Mary Ann Grimwood and there was one Daughter Sarah Ann Cason born 1817. Robert's parents married in Diss, Norfolk which is on Northern border of Suffolk with Norfolk on 21/11/1786 (from IGI) Samuel Cason married Ann Warren (Waring on Robert's christening). Maybe you could email the people on the site and tell them that there is a convict in the family. I am not aware of a Sudbury in Essex, but you may be right. There is, for example, yet another Sudbury in North West London Rhoda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lisa Wright" <lisachicken@hotmail.com> To: <aus-convicts@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 15, 2009 11:10 PM Subject: [AUS-CON] Robert CASON b.1792 > > Hi All, I would really appreciate some guidance on this as I am not sure > where to look next.I am looking for place of birth and parents names This > is the information I have to date.- Arrived Earl St Vincent 1820, 7 years, > larceny. 1. Re: [AUS-CON] Robert CASON b.1792 and Sudbury

    3. Hi Lyn and Lisa Sudbury in North West London is about a couple of miles away from where I live. It is, and was, in Middlesex - not Essex. Middlesex is no longer officially a county; it disappeared with the creation of Greater London in 1965. but its inhabitants still use it as the name of the area where they live. It's almost certain that Robert Cason born 1792 was born in the environs of Sudbury, Suffolk.
