Atwood, 86, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at Somerset Rehabilitation & Living Center in Bingham. She was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Lexington, the daughter of Lauriston and Alma (Durrell) Young. Roberta attended Bingham schools, graduating from Bingham High School as valedictorian of the class of 1939. She wrote the school song that is still used today at Valley High School. She enjoyed sewing, writing poetry, reading and was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley L. Atwood Sr., and a granddaughter, Aileen Atwood. She is survived by her sons, Stanley L. "Sonny" Atwood Jr. and his long time companion, Ann Bailey, of Canaan, and Norman C. Atwood and his wife, Ellen, of Gales Ferry, Conn.; a granddaughter, Monika Frigon and her husband, Brian, of Bingham; a grandson, Douglas Atwood of Florida; great-grandchildren, Quentin and Makaela Frigon; four half-sisters, Laura Lonergan and her husband, Dale, Fay MacFarland, Lois Loucks and Jackie Gordon; a half-brother, Donald Handrahan and his wife, Lynn; many nieces and nephews. At Bobby's request, there will be no funeral services. Interment will be in the Bingham Village Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham.
