A number of libraries have copies of a typewritten transcript made by Margaret Herberger and Ruth Crim, probably in the 1950s, and I have a copy obtained from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library in Illinois. I have also seen a transcript dated 2000 and posted online by Sandra K Enkey. There are many differences in the two transcripts, with the Enkey transcript having whole paragraphs missing in the Herberger/Crim version. Thus my interest in finding the original, or at very least, a first-generation transcipt. Also, in his manuscript, William Atwood states that "[t]his portion of my family history is not one half that I have recorded in my book. I have kept a diary account of events transpiring during the last 41 years..." Has anyone come across this diary? There are two clues: The Herberger/Crim transcript says "book now in posssession of: John F. Boose, 807 Western Avenue, Henry, Illinois." Cataloging information in OCLC WorldCat indicates that "original copy in possession of Siphorous Gates, Loveland, Colorado 1958." Thanks much!!
