The News-Gazette <www.news-gazette.com> 27 Mar 2009 Atwood, Sunao RANTOUL – Sunao "Sue" Atwood, 77, of Rantoul passed away at her home in Rantoul on Friday, March 13, 2009. Memorial services will be from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 East Grove Ave., Rantoul. The Chief Priest, Shingi Iwaki will officiate. Interment will be at Danville National Cemetery. Sunao Atwood was born March 31, 1931, in Ooh Ito, Izu, Japan, a daughter of Isuke and Towa Shimizu. She married Herbert Wayne Atwood on Nov. 13, 1956, in Tokyo. Before they settled in Rantoul in the fall of 1967, they resided at Amarillo Air Force Base, Amarillo, Texas until that base closed. Mr. Atwood died on Jan. 13, 1990. She is survived by her sister, Yukie Fujima, and several nieces and nephews, all of Japan. Her parents, a brother and four sisters preceded her in death. As a child, Sunao loved to dive, swim and play in a river near her home. She was a talented seamstress. Sunao also enjoyed cooking, singing and dancing.
