Doug was born and raised in Stockton, CA. He graduated from Stockton High School in 1933. During World War II, he served as Chief Petty Officer in the Navy Seabees. In 1956, Doug moved to Oakdale, where he and his wife Norma, owned and operated Atwood Jewelers for 26 years. He was a charter member of the Oakdale Golf & Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf. Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma; son, Stephen Atwood of Stockton, CA; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club, 243 N. Sterans Rd., Oakdale, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice at 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356. www.modbee.com/obituaries
