"Bill" Atwood, 82, died Monday, September 28, 2009, in Midland Waldon William "Bill" Atwood, 82, of Midland, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at home. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Christian Life Center-Midland, 2901 W Kansas with Pastor Billy Raies, officiating. Bill was born August 19, 1927 in Palestine, Texas to Bertha and Waldon Atwood, Sr. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School. He began at age 13 to work at Caller-Times newspaper. He worked his way up to assistant circulation manager. Bill married Mary Alice Nuernberg on November 6, 1952 in Corpus Christi. He served in the United States Army. In 1976, Bill and Mary moved to San Angelo. He was the circulation director for the newspaper there. In 1979, after moving to Midland, Bill worked for the Midland Reporter Telegram as circulation director. Bill was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid gardener and was a member of Master Gardeners. He enjoyed the Midland RockHounds baseball games and doing things with his grandchildren. Survivors include wife Mary of Midland; daughter and son-in-law Laura and Ray Fieldhouse of Midland; son and daughter-in-law Calvin and Dta of Thailand; grandchildren; Heather Kilpatrick and husband Casey of Bertram, Texas, David Atwood of Newark, Delaware, Brandon Rogers, Cody Rogers, Trevor Rogers, Kaylee Rogers and Zachary Fieldhouse, all of Midland and William Atwood and Albert Atwood of Thailand; great-grandchildren, Caden Kilpatrick and Hannah Kilpatrick of Bertram; brother and sister-in-law, Robert L. and Jean Atwood of Robstown, Texas. He was preceded in death by daughter Gaye Castleberry, grandson Marine Lance Cpl. Roger Dale Castleberry, Jr.-killed in action August 1, 2005 in Haditha, Iraq and brother Wilburn Atwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gifts of Hope-Allison Cancer Center, 400 N Garfield ST, STE 100, Midland, TX 79701.
