Savannah Morning News <www.savannahnow.com> 19 July 2009 W. D. Atwood (Bill) METTER - W.D. (Bill) Atwood, 97 died Friday, July 17, 2009 at Ogeechee Area Hospice after an extended illness. Mr. Bill was a retired farmer, enjoyed hunting, fishing, was a member of the Sinkhole Hunting Club and always look forward to shad season. Many will remember his walks to the store accompanied by his Labrador, Inky, to get the morning paper. He attended the Lake Church and Metter Primitive Baptist Church. He loved and took care of his family, including his parents, brothers and sisters. He was predeceased by his parents; Annie Vadie Hall and Benjamin Turner Atwood Sr. also; 3 Brothers and 1 Sister. Survivors; His wife of 52 years; Versie Glisson Atwood of Metter, Son and Daughter in-law; Denver and Stephanie Atwood, Grandsons; Alex, Stephen and Turner Atwood all of Birmingham AL. Cousin; Clara Bowen of Statesboro. Funeral services will be 11:00 Monday July 20, in the chapel with visitation to begin at 9:30 the morning of the service. Burial will be in the Lake Cemetery.
