(O'Connor) Atwood, 97, of Methuen died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at the Nevins Nursing Home where she has resided for 14 years. Catherine was born in Lawrence and has been a long-time Methuen resident. She was educated at St. Patrick's Grammar School in Lawrence and was a graduate of the former St. Patrick's High School. She attended and graduated from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Lowell. Catherine was employed as an R.N. throughout the Merrimack Valley prior to her retirement at the age of 70. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, William E. Atwood. She leaves her daughter, Catherine N. and her husband Herbert H. Atwood Sr. of Pelham, N.H.; grandchildren, Herbert Atwood Jr. and his wife Laureen of Londonderry, N.H., Penny Wrenn and her husband Kevin of Haverhill, Patricia and her husband Thomas Mailhiot of Litchfield, N.H. and Carrie Chaisson and her husband Mark of Merrimack, N.H.; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Devon Atwood, Julie and Brian Wrenn, David and Emily Mailhiot, and Zachary and Colby Chaisson. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and especially to the nurses and CNAs at Station B. Your love and kindness will never be forgotten. ARRANGEMENTS: Friends are invited to gather from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14 at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
