He was born in Forsyth County to the late Arthur and Nancy Conner Atwood and was married to Allene Hutchens Atwood who survives. Mr. Atwood retired from Lucent Technologies after 40 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elon and The Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of the home, sons, Steven Lee Atwood of Elon and Donald Craig Atwood of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica and Brandon Atwood and sisters, Margaret Andrews and Anita Hoots of Winston-Salem. The graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem by Rev. Mark Mofield.
