Salt Lake Tribune <www.sltrib.com> 29 Dec 2009 Ruth Marjorie Johnson Atwood 1925 ~ 2009 Born the eldest of three to Mary Esther Gunnerson Johnson and August Leroy Johnson on Feb. 1, 1925, Ruth left this life Dec. 27, 2009. She was proud to be a Jordan Beet-digger, graduating from the high school in 1943. On Dec. 7, 1944 she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Ward Atwood, Jr. She was engaged in many activities including: travelling the country, organizing a dinner club, participating in a train club, accepting a mission calling at a local convalescent home. Ruth's compassionate nature gathered her family around her and extended to the community. Ruth was active in the LDS church, serving her family and church members. She cared for her father, mother-in-law, and husband during their last days. After almost 60 years of marriage, Ruth and Ken continued their romance with each other, holding hands daily. They are now reunited through the veil. Her home was the hub of the family. She provided counseling and caring, constantly concerned for her family. Her feisty nature and strong will persevered through the death of her husband, hip surgery, and failing health during her 84 years in this life. She was preceded by Kenneth Atwood, Jr, her husband; and one great-grandchild. Surviving children: Mary Lou Muhlestein (Robert Muhlestein), Kenneth W. Atwood (Alice Atwood), and Judy R. Moore (Ronald Moore); eight grandchildren, 14 great-grand-children; Marvin Johnson, brother; and Jean Koford, sister. Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, where there will be a viewing one hour prior to services. Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
