Cape Cod Times <www.capecodtimes.com> 20 May 2009 MASHPEE - Alice Maria (Cahoon) Atwood passed away at the Mashpee Healthcare Center on May 16, 2009, at age 91, after a long struggle with asthma-related lung disease. Born on Feb. 2, 1918, in Chatham, to Susan (Small) Cahoon and Ralph E. Cahoon, who traced their Cape Cod roots back to the 1600s. At one point, Alice's ancestors had an oyster business, supplying such places as the Union Oyster House in Boston. Alice had one brother, Ralph Cahoon. She leaves a nephew, Franz Cahoon, many nephews and nieces on her husband's side, and a daughter, Brenda (Atwood) Pinardi and son-in-law, Enrico Pinardi. After graduating from Chatham High School, she married John Atwood of West Barnstable and moved to Osterville, where she lived until the last five months of her life. She worked for many years at the King's Department Store in Hyannis. Alice had many friends and was known for her warmth, kindness, and sincere caring of others. She always had a smile on her face and was ready to help in anyway she could. There are no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
